Chaos Reigns
Quietly, I'm quite a political person. Maybe its because I have children so I'm invested in the future of the UK and the EU, or maybe its because I'm proud to be English, even though that can be embarrassing to say in some spaces. I’ve been considering a move from US services for a while, anticipating chaos from The White House, but hadn’t quite settled on where to go or who to use, with the intention of moving my whole business to a UK or EU based company.
Nothing is certain yet, there doesn’t appear to be any digital tariff applied, but in business we need stability, and from my perspective, if I can remove one area of uncertainty relatively easily, I will!
After A LOT of research (why didn’t I just ask ChatGPT??) I made my decision and the transfer of content will start next week. But it occurred to me, whilst doing the washing up and listening to the utter wild news coming out of the USA this week, (and its only Tuesday!), that my clients would also benefit from this information. So I am sharing it with you!
Here is a list of the top 3 award winning UK based hosting companies. They are also all eco-friendly, as an added bonus, although this was something I actively sought out as part of my own company values.
Krystal Hosting
An independent UK-based hosting company committed to sustainability. They use 100% renewable energy and have achieved a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of at least 1.2 in their data centres. Krystal offers a range of hosting solutions suitable for various needs, including managed services, e-commerce, and agency hosting. They provide a website builder as part of their hosting packages.
Why I like Krystal
They have UK based support that is available during working hours, with a very quick response time. Their website builder is straightforward and provides easy, logical access to everything you would need from SEO to custom code.

My needs will obviously be different to yours but I did find it a difficult decision in the end because all of these options are good. If you’re looking to move away from US based companies like Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, Weebly or even WordPress and want to be able to log in to your website and edit it without the need of your favourite dev, then Krystal or Kualo are for you. If you are simply looking for a hosting solution, then maybe give Forest a look.
For those of you with Shopify websites, don’t worry, they’re Canadian! 🇨🇦 😊
And of course, you know where I am! If you want to discuss the practicalities of moving away from the US companies, please do get in touch. Its easier than you think.
